September: Transitions

I sat out on my porch in Nashville for about five minutes this morning and it felt glorious. It was 69 degrees of pure bliss - the welcome gift we’ve all been waiting for. In Tennessee, we’ve entered the false autumn that won’t last, but completely worth savoring. September is a transition month. We still have hot days but often wear an extra layer on our morning commute. If you’ve been on social media lately, you may have seen the 100,000 posts about pumpkin spice lattes hitting the market again. We are transitioning to fall indeed.
Personally, I’m going through my own major life transition - I’m 7 months pregnant. Wooooo, typing that out makes it feel more real! Like any change or transition, I feel so many different emotions as I walk into the unknowns of parenthood. Change is scary, exciting, worrisome, full of creativity, hopeful and so much more. John O’Donohue says in For a New Beginning, “Though your destination is not yet clear, you can trust the promise of this opening; unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning…”
What change is afoot in your life? Maybe you are transitioning jobs, family circumstances, location? Or maybe you are transitioning into a waiting period. Wherever you are, slow down enough to pay attention to the ebb and flow of the changing waters. Feel the cool ripples and know that you are already on the path and you can trust the grace of this beginning.
